Can you believe it. I go to Seattle, WA the home of Starbucks and the American coffee culture and I get tea. Tea! While I can be found on occasion having a coffee my preferred choice will always be tea. It seems kind of blasphemes to both coffee and tea drinkers. A person should prefer one or the other, not both. I also could not help but go to the original Starbucks while sightseeing, it was in area of Pike Market. One thing I know for sure after visiting Seattle is make sure you have a great pair of walking shoes with great arch support. Everything out there is either up or down hill.
I went to Seattle to attend the 2023 AWP conference. My first since having COVID. I had been a bit hesitant. I knew that there would be thousands of people there. COVID infections had been on an uptick. I could choose to wear a mask, which many people did, or choose to follow good hygiene practices, get plenty of rest and take my vitamins. Since having been previously vaccinated and following my vitamin and rest regime since leaving the hospital without so much as another cold I chose the latter. Another factor is I also watch the type of food I eat now limiting both processed foods and sugar. I had caught COVID while maintaining all of the CDC guidelines and protocols. I personally don’t feel that wearing a mask helped me against a microscopic organism. There are people who swear by masks as well as others who refuse to be vaccinated. My thoughts are it’s a personal choice on what you feel works best for you. I respect your choice you respect mine.
As for Seattle I had never been there before. Had it not been for the book convention I probably never would have traveled to Seattle. I am glad that I did though and would like to come back to explore the city more. While I went to the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and MoPOP the Chihuly Gardn and Glas was by far my favorite.
Chihuly took my breath away. I am in awe of the man and his creations. I sat for hours staring at his exhibits. Taking in the colors, textures and spirt of each piece. It breathed life into my own creativity and inspired me to write the first piece of poetry in many years. It made me realize that no matter where I travel, I can take a moment to pause and reflect on a place in words and image.
